Upper Tantallon
One of the more desirable bedroom communities in HRM (similar to Kingswood, Hammonds Plains and Fall River in terms of space and lot sizes). Upper Tantallon is a great choice for families looking for good schools, plenty of space, housing affordability and proximity to the ocean and nature.
The commute into Halifax is pretty decent, approx. 30-40 minutes depending on the time of day. Like many of these semi rural communities, public transportation is lacking somewhat. There is a 330 commuter express line which links residents along the Highway 103 to Halifax’s downtown core.

Local Amenities:
The Upper Tantallon area has several small strip malls with an Atlantic Superstore, Shopper’s Drug Mart, a Canadian Tire, a drop in medical centre and a British store and café. Additional shopping can be found at Tantallon Plaza (also known locally as the Hubley Centre), a retail plaza offering many stores and services including Sobey’s GoodLife Fitness, Dollarama and more. Tantallon Library is small but awesome, there’s a farmer’s market in the warm weather and lots of small businesses trying to do more. People here want it to be a vibrant community.
The Bike and Bean Café is a local Upper Tantallon hotspot with a great community atmosphere. It is close to the rails to trails and a busy stopping place for cyclists and hikers alike.
St Margaret’s Centre is a busy but well run recreation and leisure facility for hockey, skating lessons, gymnastics and many more indoor activities.
As you can see, Upper Tantallon is a great neighbourhood with access to plenty of amenities. It’s a short drive to Hammond’s Plains and Bayers Lake for additional amenities and shopping.
And if you are a beach lover, the South Shore has some of the most beautiful beaches in Nova Scotia. Ten of the most perfect beaches are located within a short drive from one another and only a short drive from Upper Tantallon.
