Fall River Neighbourhood

Perfect semi-rural community with highway access and large 1+ acre lots

Fall River is one of the most picturesque areas within Halifax with an abundance of lakes, wide open spaces and large spacious lots. Fall River is a fast growing, well planned community and offers a mix of older properties and brand new developments, each with its own unique personality and many offering lake front living. All homes have septic systems, some are on a well and some subdivisions have city water. It all depends on what you are looking for. There is a good choice of housing types with a varying price tag ranging from $400,000 upwards of $1m. The average price of a Fall River home tends to be around the $650 mark (May 2023).

The area is well serviced with amenities including a popular Recreation Centre including a fitness centre, Sobeys grocery store, a gym, a full service hair salon, a family medical practice, chiropractor offices, dentists, a warm and welcoming local cafe, a tap and grill/bar  and fine dining plus so much more.

The area has two small beach areas with docks, the Gordon Snow Recreation Centre and Windsor Junction Community Centre. There are plenty of playgrounds, walking trails, two golf courses (one in Fall River and one in Oakfield) plus two Provincial Parks right on your doorstep – Laurie Park and Oakfield. 

Major shopping is only a 10 minute drive to Bedford, Sackville (via Highway 102) or Dartmouth Crossing (via Highway 118).

The area is centrally located only 15 minutes to the airport and 30 minutes to Downtown Halifax. Many people choose Fall River for its great location as it has easy access to both the 102 and 118 series of highways, making commute quick and easy. Although with the growing popularity of the area, the exit off the 118 into Fall River can be very busy during rush hour.

The schools are sought after and some of the best in metro.  There are three Elementary schools serving the Fall River Community. Ash Lee Jefferson, offering Early French Immersion Program (Pre-Primary-5), Holland Road Elementary (Pre-Primary -5) and Waverley Memorial (Pre-Primary – 5). Georges P Vanier is the Junior High (Grades 6- 7-8) and Lockview High School serves Grades 9-12.

Fall River is an excellent, warm and welcoming, family oriented community. It is close to everything yet out of the hustle and bustle of City life. It’s a fantastic place to raise a family.

 

Other areas to consider within (or close to) the Fall River area:

Windsor Junction – On the outskirts of the Fall River boundary, Windsor Junction is a delightful community nestled between 3 lakes – Second Lake, Third Lake and Kinsac Lake. The area is home to Windsor Junction Community Centre (WJCC), a popular spot for Fall River and Lakeview families with a beach, lots of summer activities including day camps, outdoor swim classes, two ball fields and a club house. Capilano Estates is a well established neighbourhood with City Water. The area is close to New Ashburn Golf Course (walking distance) as well as Lower Sackville, Bedford, Dartmouth and Halifax.

Waverley: South of Fall River is the well established and popular community of Waverley. The area has a rich history in Gold mining. Waverley Elementary is the local school (Pre-Primary to Grade 5), there is a post office, a Heritage Museum and Cheema Aquatic Club. The Waverley Village Green hosts community events and festivities and serves as a gathering place for families in the neighbourhood. The area offers a mix of home styles on large lots, some with city water, many with lake views and lakefront living. All amenities are easily accessible in Fall River which is a short drive away.

Wellington: Many homes are cottage style lakefront on Fletcher’s Lake, others are in quiet neighbourhoods on good size lots. The area is well priced and offers value for money. Wellington has a few stores and shops including the fabulous Wellington Bakery Fall River has all the everyday amenities you could need and is a few minutes drive. Elementary School is Holland Road (Pre-Primary to Grade 5).

Oakfield/Grand Lake: Oakfield/Grand Lake offers a mix of single family in established family-friendly communities, some older style homes, acreages as well as a brand new development (Oakfield Woods). Some of the homes in Oakfield and Grand Lake are luxury lakefront. Laurie Park and Oakfield Parks are close by for trails, swimming, camping and more. Oakfield Golf and Country Club is another attraction for this area. The Elementary School serving this area is Oakfield Consolidated Elementary (Pre-Primary to Grade 5). Georges P. Vanier is the Junior High School and Lockview is the High School.
