Sackville Nova Scotia is split into three distinct communities, Lower Sackville, Middle Sackville and Upper Sackville. Lower Sackville is the busier of the three where most of the population live and where more of the amenities and shopping are based. Middle and Upper Sackville are quieter neighbourhoods that have large country lots and on well and septic systems.
Lower Sackville
Lower Sackville has often been given a bad rap but there are some really good subdivisions and neighbourhoods and if you are looking for value for money and closeness to amenities, you can’t go far wrong. Choosing the right location is paramount though. The area has a strong first time buyers market.
Lower Sackville has a good selection of shopping and amenities, including banks, two large grocery stores, numerous restaurants, a library, play parks, splash pads, coffee shops, gyms, dental/medical offices and as such the area can be bustling and traffic can be busy.
There are many excellent recreation facilities here including the Sackville Sports Stadium with two indoor pools, several rinks and a year round program of activities, organised through Halifax Recreation. There are many lakes, lots of walking trails, a highly regarded and popular canoe club, Sackawa and several outdoor sports fields within the community. Taiso Gymnastics Club is an excellent gymnastics club offering year round training.
You’ll find many walk in medical clinics throughout the community, most located on Sackville Drive and the Cobequid Community Health Center has an Emergency department (NOT open 24 hours. Closes at 10pm) as well as blood collection, xray and day surgery.
Lower Sackville is centrally located. 15 minutes to Bayers Lake, 15 minutes to Dartmouth Crossing. And approx. 15 minutes to the airport. There is a free park and ride and a Metro Link express bus service that will take you to downtown Halifax in just under 30 minutes.
Schools
The schools are well regarded. The Sackville district is home to several smaller elementary schools located in and around the community and three Junior High Schools, A.J Smeltzer, Leslie Thomas and Sackville Heights and two high schools, Sackville High School and Millwood High School.
