Downtown Dartmouth is urban living at its best. It has all the benefits of the downtown core without the high price tag of peninsula Halifax.

Access to Halifax is good, you have the choice of driving, taking the bus or ferry (which is a pretty cool way to travel to and from work each day – I did this for quite a few years when I worked downtown on Hollis Street) plus it’s a real treat to see the Halifax skyline from the water. All in all, your commute to Halifax may only set you back 15-20 minutes.

Alderney Landing is a fantastic resource right in the heart of Downtown Dartmouth. As well as a convention centre, art gallery and theatre facility, you’ll find the Dartmouth Ferry Terminal for easy commuting to Halifax, the Alderney Gate Public Library, and the Farmers’ Market, which operates every Saturday and Sunday and features the area’s best local produce.

Dartmouth has had a bad rap in the past and like many neighbourhoods, there are  “good “and “bad” parts and pockets of crime everywhere. There are certain areas to avoid, likewise there are excellent neighbourhoods with great schools and amenities. It really does depend on what community you choose.
