Hammonds Plains is popular community located 5 minutes from Bedford and 20-40 minutes to downtown Halifax.
The area has large spacious treed lots. There is a variety of subdivisions to choose from including Voyager Lakes, Glen Arbour golf community, White Hills, Westwood Hills, Haliburton and the much sought after community of Kingswood and Kingswood North. There are some beautiful lake front properties in the Hammonds Plains area.
Shopping and entertainment can be found in Bedford, Tantallon or Clayton Park, located 5-15 minutes away. The area of Hammonds Plains has minimal shopping, some medical facilities, a well established and popular music studio, Andrea’s Music Studio offering piano, guitar, voice lessons and more.
The Hammonds Plain’s area also has a few day care centres, Go Active Kids and Willowbrae Academy, two garden centres – Bloom Greenhouse Garden Centre and Farmer Clems (both seasonal).

Hatfield Farm is a popular year round spot for families with horse riding lessons, wagon and sleigh rides and a petting pen. Another fun summer spot is the recently renovated Atlantic Splash Adventures a splash park with rides and slides for all the family. The Hammonds Plains Community Centre on Hammonds Plains Road is an active hub for bringing the community together and offers summer camps, playgroups, fitness classes, over 50+ activities and lots more. Other activities in the area include Mind Hack Escape Room and an Action Laser Tag.as well as two golf courses, Glen Arbour Golf Course and Hammonds Plains Disc Golf Course.
Pockwock Falls Trail is a 7.6 kilometer lightly trafficked trail located near Stillwater Lake, with a waterfall pretty close to the trail entrance. Blue Mountain Summit Trail is another local hike which offers a steady climb to the summit of Blue Mountain, where you’ll access the highest, unobstructed views in the Halifax Regional Municipality.
Travel to Halifax takes 20-30 minutes, depending on which of the three routes you take and the time of day. The area does suffer with congestion issues, particularly on the Hammonds Plains Road.
House styles range from older homes to unique executive style properties. All homes have a septic system and most have a well. Some of the newer homes in Kingswood have city water. Prices start upwards of $225,000 for a single family home.
Schools in the area are excellent and all offer French Immersion programs. They include Kingswood Elementary, Hammonds Plains Consolidated, Madeline Symonds Middle School, Ecole Five Bridges Junior High, Charles P. Allen High School (CP Allen is considered one of the top Nova Scotia Schools) and Sir John A. MacDonald High (Tantallon)
The area is popular with people looking for country living outside of the city but with easy access to amenities and major traffic routes. It has a very similar feel to Fall River. Other areas to consider if you like the look of Hammonds Plains would be Fall River, Upper Tantallon and Middle Sackville.
