Located in the urban core of Halifax, the North End neighbourhood is a vibrant, trendy, multicultural community that extends from Cogswell Street to the North of the Bedford Basin. This is an established neighbourhood undergoing regentrification both residentially and commercially. There is an abundance of new apartments, hip restaurants and a growing arts community.
Schools: North End neighbourhood schools include Joseph Howe Elementary School, St. Stephen’s Elementary School, St. Joseph’s Alexander McKay Elementary School, Oxford Junior High, Highland Park Junior High School and Citadel High School.
The South End of Halifax is home to large estate homes on quiet, tree lined streets, many historic buildings as well as detached single-family homes in a variety of styles. This area is an affluent and pricey neighbourhood, often commanding some of the highest prices in Halifax. The South End is home to four universities, making the area a popular choice for student rentals. The area is also home to the IWK Children’s Hospital and QEII Health Sciences Centre.
Schools: The South End is home to a variety of private and public schools. The area has 5 great elementary schools, two Junior High schools and Citadel High School as well as a handful of private schools, all offering grades 1-12.
Point Pleasant Park is a popular recreational spot for dog walkers and joggers. The large, forested park has stunning views across the harbour.
This neighbourhood is a popular choice for families who choose to live within Halifax peninsula. It is made up of mature residential homes, often on tree lined streets. The area is close to all amenities, has great schools, a huge choice of restaurants and coffee shops, easy access to shopping, lots of parks and is very accessible to all parts of Halifax.

Halifax Waterfront is the bustling hub of the city. During the summer months, crowds of locals and visitors love nothing better than strolling the 4km boardwalk, browsing the shops, and enjoying the many eateries, waterfront dining options and watering holes. Downtown Halifax is home to the Halifax Central library, several museums, the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia and Neptune Theatre as well as the bustling Halifax Seaport Farmer’s Market. You’ll also find Halifax’s Public Gardens, one of the finest surviving examples of a Victorian garden in North America.
The Metro Transit ferry terminal is right on the waterfront and is only a 10 minute ride across the harbour to Dartmouth. It’s also one of the most unique and fun ways to capture a photo of the Halifax skyline.
The real advantages to living within Halifax peninsula is convenience, with commuting to the downtown core and other corners of Halifax taking only minutes. It’s worth noting that you’ll likely get a smaller and older home for your money compared to other areas outside of peninsula Halifax.
