Your guide to what’s happening in Halifax and Dartmouth this November, including Christmas markets, tree lightings, holiday parades, theatre and family events.
We’re heading into the final six weeks before Christmas, and November is when the festive season really starts to get going across Halifax and Dartmouth.
From Christmas markets and tree lightings to festive parades, live theatre and seasonal events, there’s plenty happening throughout the month to get everyone into the holiday spirit.
I’ve put together two handy graphics highlighting some of the main November events, along with a separate guide to Christmas tree lightings and parades around Halifax and the surrounding communities.
Of course, November is also a month of remembrance, with ceremonies taking place across the region on November 11.
Here’s a closer look at what’s happening this November, including a few additional events I couldn’t squeeze onto the graphics!
Remembrance Day in Halifax: November 11
Before the Christmas celebrations get into full swing, November 11 is an important day to pause and remember those who served and sacrificed for our country.
Remembrance Day ceremonies will be held throughout Halifax, Dartmouth, Bedford, Sackville and surrounding communities, giving residents an opportunity to pay their respects.
Check local community listings for ceremony locations and start times.

November sees the start of the holiday market season, with plenty of opportunities to shop locally, discover handmade gifts and support small businesses.
Here are a few worth adding to your calendar.

Halifax Brewery Market
An opportunity to get a head start on your Christmas shopping while supporting local makers and vendors.
A Fairytale Christmas Market: November 26, 3-7 PM

Alderney Landing Christkindlmarket – December 4-6
Alderney Landing, Downtown Dartmouth
Although this one falls just outside November, it’s worth putting on your calendar now.
Inspired by traditional German Christmas markets, this popular event brings festive shopping, food, entertainment and family activities to the Dartmouth waterfront.
And these are just a handful of the markets taking place. Keep an eye out for smaller community craft fairs, school Christmas markets and holiday pop-ups happening across Halifax, Bedford, Sackville, Fall River and the surrounding areas throughout November and December.
Evergreen Festival Returns to the Halifax Waterfront
November 27 to December 20, 2026
One of Halifax’s biggest holiday attractions returns at the end of November.
The Evergreen Festival transforms parts of the Halifax waterfront into a festive destination with an outdoor holiday market, seasonal lighting displays, fire pits, live music and entertainment.
It’s a lovely way to spend an evening downtown, whether you’re browsing for Christmas gifts, meeting friends or simply enjoying the atmosphere along the waterfront.
The festival takes place at multiple locations, with the Evergreen Market and other seasonal activities running on selected days throughout the festival.
Christmas Tree Lightings and Holiday Parades Around Halifax
For many families, the Christmas season doesn’t officially begin until the community tree lights go on or the first holiday parade rolls through town.
Throughout late November and early December, communities across Halifax Regional Municipality will be hosting their own festive celebrations.
From downtown Halifax and Dartmouth to Bedford, Sackville, Fall River and surrounding communities, these events are always a lovely way to kick off the season.
I’ve put together this graphic highlighting the Christmas tree lightings and parades to watch for this year.
A quick note: Some communities are still finalizing dates and times, so be sure to check the organizers’ latest announcements before heading out. Most of these celebrations traditionally take place in late November or early December.
Christmas Shows at Neptune Theatre
If you enjoy a trip to the theatre over the festive season, Neptune Theatre has two Christmas favourites returning this year.
Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical
November 12, 2026 to January 10, 2027
The beloved story of the Grinch and the residents of Whoville comes to life on stage with music, colourful characters and plenty of Christmas spirit.
A great option for a festive family outing.
Dickens’ A Christmas Carol
November 24 to December 27, 2026
Another Halifax holiday tradition returns to Neptune Theatre. Follow Ebenezer Scrooge through his encounters with the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future in this classic Christmas story.
If either of these productions is on your list, it’s worth planning ahead and booking tickets.
Halifax Mooseheads Home Games: November 2026
And for those who need a break from all things Christmas, there’s plenty of hockey to enjoy this month!
The Halifax Mooseheads have six home games scheduled at Scotiabank Centre.
Whether you’re a regular Mooseheads supporter or just fancy a night out with the family, catching a home game is always a good option during the colder months.
Make the Most of November in Halifax
There’s certainly no shortage of things to do around Halifax this November.
Whether you enjoy Christmas markets, live entertainment, community celebrations or a good hockey game, there’s something happening for just about everyone.
One of the things I enjoy about living in Halifax is how much our local communities get involved at this time of year. From the big waterfront festivals to the smaller neighbourhood tree lightings and craft markets, there’s plenty to enjoy close to home.
Save the two November event graphics for a quick reference, and remember to double-check dates and times with event organizers, as some schedules are still being confirmed.
Here’s to a great November and the start of another festive season in Halifax!
