Halifax Neighbourhoods Ranked for Emergency Access and Connectivity

Could you get out of your neighbourhood quickly if you had to?

HRM has reviewed 362 Halifax subdivisions based on road connectivity and emergency access. Terrence Bay, Indigo Shores and Upper Hammonds Plains received the highest vulnerability scores.

That does not mean these communities are unsafe. It means limited road connections could make movement more difficult during an evacuation or other emergency.

For many residents, the experience of the 2023 wildfire is still very real. As Halifax continues to grow, housing and infrastructure need to be planned together.

If you’re buying in a rural, coastal or heavily wooded community, road access and future development should be part of your due diligence.

Were you surprised by the communities on the list?
