August may be the final full month of summer, but Halifax certainly isn’t winding down yet.
From Natal Day fireworks and community festivals to outdoor concerts, football, markets and family events, there is plenty happening across Halifax, Dartmouth and the surrounding communities before school starts again in September.
Here are some of the main events worth adding to your calendar this August.
Halifax-Dartmouth Natal Day Celebrations
Natal Day weekend is always one of the highlights of summer in Halifax, with several events taking place throughout the long weekend.
Halifax-Dartmouth Natal Day Fireworks
Saturday, August 1 at 10:00 p.m.
The annual Natal Day fireworks will light up Halifax Harbour on Saturday evening. You can watch from several spots along the Halifax and Dartmouth waterfronts, although the area around Dartmouth Ferry Terminal Park traditionally offers one of the best views.
The rain date is Sunday, August 2 at 10:00 p.m.
Halifax Wanderers Home Game
Sunday, August 2
Spend part of the Natal Day weekend cheering on the Halifax Wanderers at the Wanderers Grounds. There is always a great atmosphere, particularly during a summer home match.
Natal Day Parade
Monday, August 3 at 10:30 a.m.
The Natal Day Parade returns to downtown Dartmouth on Monday morning. It is always good fun, with colourful floats, music, community groups and plenty happening along the parade route.
Lake Banook Fireworks
Monday, August 3
Natal Day celebrations continue on Monday evening with another fireworks display over Lake Banook in Dartmouth. Find a spot around the lake and enjoy one final show to finish the long weekend.
You can find the latest schedules and any weather-related updates on the official Natal Day website.
More Events Happening Around Halifax in August
Halifax Tides Home Games
August 3 and August 23
Support Halifax’s professional women’s soccer team at the Wanderers Grounds. A Tides home game is an enjoyable way to spend a summer afternoon while supporting local sport.
Check the Halifax Tides schedule before heading out, as match dates and times can change.
Tuesday Night Tunes and Free Museum Admission
Every Tuesday in August
The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic is hosting its free summer concert series every Tuesday. The museum also offers free admission from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., making it an easy and affordable evening on the Halifax waterfront.
Family Fun Days on Georges Island
Friday, August 7
Take the ferry across Halifax Harbour and enjoy a family day on Georges Island National Historic Site. It is a chance to explore the island, learn more about Halifax’s history and enjoy a different view of the city.
Wings and Wheels
Saturday, August 8
Wings and Wheels returns to Halifax Stanfield, bringing aircraft and vehicles together for a day that should appeal to aviation fans, car lovers and curious kids alike.
Movies in the Park
Saturday, August 8 | Acadia Park, Lower Sackville
Bring your lawn chairs and blankets for an outdoor movie night at Acadia Park. This month’s featured films include The Bourne Identity and Space Jam.
Fall River Field Fest
Sunday, August 9 | 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Fall River Field Fest offers a relaxed community day with activities for the family. It is a good opportunity to get outside, meet some neighbours and enjoy one of the area’s local summer events.
Keloose Festival 2026
August 14 to 16
Keloose is back for another weekend of community events in Fall River and Windsor Junction.
The 2026 festival includes family activities, a pancake breakfast, a community market, a skate jam, food trucks, music and plenty for the kids. The weekend finishes with Family Fun Day and fireworks over Third Lake after dark on Sunday.
As someone who lives in Fall River, this is always one of my favourite local weekends of the summer.
DeWolf Park Carnival and BBQ
Saturday, August 15 | 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Head to DeWolf Park in Bedford for an afternoon carnival and barbecue beside the Bedford Basin. With its waterfront setting, playground and walking paths, DeWolf Park is already a great place for a family afternoon.
Halifax County Exhibition
August 19 to 22
The Halifax County Exhibition brings traditional agricultural events, livestock, competitions, entertainment and family activities to Middle Musquodoboit. It is a proper country exhibition and a nice change of pace from the busier downtown festivals.
Hope for Wildlife Open House
Saturday, August 29 | 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Hope for Wildlife’s annual Open House is one of those events that both children and adults can enjoy.
Visitors get a rare behind-the-scenes look at the wildlife rescue and rehabilitation facility in Seaforth, including its medical areas, nurseries, recovery units and flight cages. There will also be educational displays, children’s activities, music and food.
Admission is free, and the event takes place rain or shine. You can find more information through Hope for Wildlife.
Summer Marketplace and Shows
August 28 and 29 | Halifax Waterfront
Finish the month with two days of shopping, entertainment and live performances on the Halifax waterfront. The Summer Marketplace will feature local businesses, vendors and products, with shows and music adding to the atmosphere.
