What’s On in Halifax This May 2026

May is when Halifax starts to come alive again

Longer days, a bit more warmth, and the city starting to come into bloom. It’s a good time to shake off winter and our cool April and enjoy May in our beautiful city. Whether you’re into live sport, food festivals, or just exploring more of the city, there’s plenty going on this month.

Get Out and Explore Halifax

Jane’s Walk (May 1-3) is a great way to see neighbourhoods from a different perspective. Simple guided walks, local insight, and a chance to explore parts of the city you might normally pass by.

Across the peninsula and downtown Dartmouth, Open City Halifax returns as the unofficial start of the summer season. It’s all about getting out, supporting local businesses, and discovering what’s on your doorstep, think pop-ups, small events, and more life on the streets.

A couple of other events worth knowing about, if shopping is your thing, include the Halifax Crafters Society Spring Market (May 2-3, 10 to 5pm) at the Lighthouse Arts Centre (free admission), and The Curio Collective Vintage Pop-Up running the same weekend at IKEA Halifax (11 to 5pm).

Events Worth Knowing About in Halifax

The Halifax Comedy Festival is always a highlight. It’s been running for decades and brings a strong mix of local and international talent across venues in the city.

If you prefer something more active, the Blue Nose Marathon is one of those weekends where the whole city gets involved, whether you’re running or just out supporting. The energy is contagious and it’s always a great weekend in downtown Halifax.
